MSC(Mesenchymal Stem Cells) Scale-up based Cardiac Regenerative Therapy
Bongmun Kang, PhD
In Advanced Biotechnology/OncoInsightMSC based regenerative therapies are widely used for the treatment of cardiovascular disease. Especially, effective delivery of MSC to the heart tissue is a seminal part of these therapies. For example, Osaka University, Trumo BCT, and Dai Nippon Printing have organized consortium(s) for MSC delivery to the heart, especially cell sheets. Consequently, mass production of MSC is highly recommend to provide sufficient amount of MSC that can be delivered to the heart. For effective scale-up of MSC, various kinds of bioreactors have been developed. Among these, Trumo BCT has developed Quantum, a Hollow fiber bioreactor, that demonstrates low contamination and high cell harvesting rate by oxygen transfer and shear forces. Furthermore, next generation Gut-Heart Axis based cardiovascular disease treatment have also been developed by Nestle Health Science and Novo Nordisk.
