Background: Anemia is known important poor prognotic factor of Myocardial infarction (MI). Especially, severity of anemia in MI was correlated with left ventricular dysfunction. The aim of study was to assess the correlation with severity of anemia and severity of heart dysfunction in patients with ST-elevation MI (STEMI). Methods: This study is conducted a retrospective analysis of collected data on 396 consecutive patients (mean age: 62.3 years, male 76.2%, HTN 41%, DM 22%) who had been hospitalized with STEMI between January 2006 and December 2010 at our center. We assessed demographic and clinical characteristics and echocardiographic and laboratory findings. Results: Initial hemoglobin (Hb, mean: 13.7g/dl) was negative correlation with Log-pro-Brain Nitro-uretic Peptide (Log-pro-BNP, mean: 2.39, R=0.454, P=0.000). Also, initial Hb was positive correlation with left ventricle ejection fraction (LVEF, mean: 52.13%, R=0.165, P=0.001). Furthermore, initial Hb was negative correlation with E/E’(mean: 13.54, R=0.402, P=0.000) and in left ventricle mass index (LVMI, mean: 149.45g/m2, R=0.326, P=0.000). Conclusions: This study was showed that initial Hemoglobin in STEMI correlated to Log-pro-BNP, LVEF, LVMI, E/Em ratio. These mean that anemia might be a predictor of severity of left ventricular systolic and diastolic dysfunction in STEMI.
