Impact of Favorable versus Unfavorable Angiographic Morphology on Chronic Total Coronary Occlusion Intervention Outcomes |

Background: Chronic total occlusion (CTO) intervention is still challenging because of the limited procedural success rate and higher target lesion failure. So far, it is unclear whether unfavorable angiographic morphology would impact on the CTO outcomes after successful percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) in the drug-eluting stent (DES) era.
Methods: A total of 132 CTO patients (pts) were divided into favourable lesion group (n= 42pts) and unfavourable lesion group (n=90 pts) according to the angiographic morphology of CTO lesion. Immediate procedural success rate, periprocedural complications and 6-month angiographic and clinical outcomes were evaluated between these two groups.
Results: Baseline characteristics were similar between the groups.These two groups had similar procedural characteristics and procedure related complications (Table). At 6 months, both groups with successful PCI had similar angiographic and clinical outcomes.
Conclusions: Even though unfavourable morphology of CTO adversely impact on the procedural success, unfavourable lesions showed similar mid-term angiographic and clinical outcomes compared with the favorable lesions.
