Background: Myocardial involvement during scrub typhus has been reported but it is rare. This study aimed to evaluate electrocardiographic feature of acute scrub typhus. Methods: The study included 135 consecutive patients (median age = 60 years, range 18-91 years, 42 mail, 93 female) who was hospitalized cases of scrub typhus from 2004 to 2005. The electrocardiographic, clinical and laboratory findings of scrub typhus were retrospectively evaluated. Results: Electrocardiographies were abnormal in 65 of the 135 patients (48.1%). Various findings beyond the normal range were as follows: sinus bradycardia, sinus tachycardia, sinus arrhythmia, multifocal atrial tachycardia, atrial fibrillation, atrial premature contraction, ventricular premature contraction, tall broad p wave on lead II, ST segment depression and elevation on precordial leads, tall and peaked T waves in V2-4, flat or low T waves in V4-6 , low QRS voltage, poor progression of R wave, right bundle branch block. Electrocardiographic findings are presented in table. Concolusions: Myocardial involvement in scrub typhus is very rare. However, Electrocardiographic abnormalities were present commonly in the acute scrub typhus.
