Feasibility of Segmental Topographic Assessment with Computed Tomographic Angiography for Evaluation of Coronary Vasodilation Function

Background : Vasodilatory disturbance is considered due to endothelial dysfunction. Non-invasive assessment of coronary vasodilation has been limited. The aim of this study was to investigate usfulness of multi-detector computed tomography (MDCT) for vasodilation function. Method : Baseline coronary CT was performed in 5 volunteers using 16 channel MDCT with 3 days beta blocker, then reperformed with nitroglycerin in 2 days. Cross sectional luminal diameters and areas of 122 segments in 15 coronary arteries were measured by the dedicated software. Each segment assigned to proximal, mid, and distal group, and the measures were compared. Results : Nitroglycerin resulted in increased coronary diameter and area at mid and distal portions(p<0.05). Conclusion : Segmental Topographic Assessment with MDCT may be useful for non-invasive measurement of coronary vasodilation.
