Background Compared with non-diabetics, the prognosis in patients with diabetes after coronary stenting is poor, with a high rate of in-stent restenosis. The objective of this study was to assess the relative merits of 2 drug-eluting stents in the prevention of clinical and angiographic restenosis in patients with diabetes mellitus. Methods and Results In the KOMATE registry, 781 diabetics with 1,016 lesions underwent coronary stenting using either sirolimus-eluting stent or paclitaxel-eluting stent. The baseline clinical and angiographical characteristics were similar. Angiographic data are presented in the table below. Conclusions Sirolimus-eluting stents may be superior to paclitaxel-eluting stents for treatment of patients with diabetes mellitus. Complete clinical and angiographic follow-up will be available for the presentation.
