Background: It is very rare that coarctation of aorta (COA) is limited to the lower thoracic aorta or abdominal aorta in the adult. Methods: Three consecutive patients with distal thoracic aorta stenosis (middle aortic syndrome) undergoing successful stenting were analyzed. Results: Age and sex were 22-year-old female, 44-year old male, and 64-year-old female, respectively. All patients had a history of hypertension and symptom of claudication. Symptom duration was 6-16 years. One patient presented acute pulmonary edema with congestive heart failure. Aortogram results were analyzed. The pressure gradient across the lesion was 97, 60, 85 mmHg at the baseline respectively. All patients were placed domestic bare-type stents. Stent size and length were 18*40, 24*100, 20*100 mm. All procedures were successful. The pressure gradient was 12, 15, 25 mmHg after stenting. Follow-up aortograms at 6 months after stenting showed no pressure gradient. During the clinical follow-up, no cardiovascular events were developed and blood pressures were normalized. Conclusions: The implantation of stent in patients with middle aortic syndrome is safe and associated with good clinical outcomes.
