Purpose: To determine left ventricular (LV) volumetric and functional parameters from retrospectively electrocardiographically gated 16-slice multi-detector row computed CT(MDCT) by using semi-automated analysis soft ware and to correlate results with those of 2-D echocardiography using Simpon’s method Materials and Methods: In 20 patients(mean age, 53.6 years ± 4.8[SD]) known to have or suspected of having coronary artery disease, 16-slice MDCT was performed with standard technique, and diastolic and systolic image reconstructions were generated. End-systolic volume (ESV), end-diastolic volume (EDV),stroke volume(SV) and ejection fraction (EF) were determined from multi-planar reformations orthogonally through the cardiac short axis and analyzed using special evaluation software (ARGUS, Siemens). The results were compared with ESV, EDV and EF obtained from 2-D echocardiography, using a Simpson's approach to quantify left ventricular volumes Results; The correlation coefficient between EDV,ESV,EF estimated with CT and those done with 2- D echocardiography was 0.82,0.88,0.89, respectively. There were significant difference in EDV,SV between CT and 2-D echocardiography(p<0.005) Conclusion: Left ventricular volumetric and functional parameters obtained from 16-slice MDCT using dedicated analysis soft ware correlated well those from 2-D echocardiography. End diastolic volume and stroke volume estimated by CT are significantly larger than those done by 2-D echocardiography
