Background Today, both sirolimus-eluting stents (SES) and paclitaxel-eluting stents (PES) have been shown in randomized trials to reduce restenosis as compared with conventional bare metal stents. However, few data comparing two drug-eluting stents (DES) are available. Methods Since February 2003, the patients with coronary stenosis received either SES or PES at our center. Standard procedures were performed. Angiographic follow-up was performed at six or nine months. Primary end point was defined as in-stent restenosis on angiography and secondary end point was defined MCE at one-, six- and twelve-month. Results 645 lesions in 500 patients (368 men, 61.4±10.0 years) underwent implantation of SES (450 lesions) and PES (195 lesions). Baseline clinical and angiographic data were similar in both groups. Angiographic data are presented in the table below. One patient in the SES group died and TVR was required in one patient of the PES group after follow-up of 1 month. At 6-month the incidence of MACE was similar between 2 groups (1.8% in SES group and 2.9% in PES group, p=0.975). Conclusions There was no significant difference in the rate of in-stent restenosis and the incidence of MACE between SES and PES groups. IVUS follow-up data will be available for presentation.
